  • Backyard chalet

    2013-2014
The family living in this semi-detached duplex wanted a small refuge which would allow them to make better use of their backyard. The addition of a small wooden box behind the kitchen creates space for breakfast, for work, for the afternoon sun. The room opens out to the existing terrace, with new cedar-wrapped stairs down into the yard, creating a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces for the family. The kitchen is completely renovated in order to rationalise circulation and storage with more work surfaces. The existing brick walls and the new recycled wood shelves lend an elemental texture to the the new spaces.
